William Sedgwick [Unknown Sedgwick]
A William Sedgwick is noted in the 1841 census of Houghton le Side, Durham as a farmer aged 50 together with his wife Margaret (38) and his children Thomas (20), Mary (8), Ralph (6), Ann (4), Dorothy (2) and William (1). Nearby is a Margaret (16) and in Heighington a George (15). Whilst the childrens ages seem slightly out, it is believed that this entry relates to this family. In 1871 Margaret, now a widow, is similarly described as a farmer of Houghton le Side. The children were baptised at Manfield and thus the family is probably connected to the other Durham groups already posted on this site. |
