James Sedgwick [Edward Sedgwick / Elizabeth Taylor] b. circa 1580 m Elizabeth May d.after 1642 According to the Visitations of Cambridge 1619 John is living in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire with his two sons John and William. His ancestors are said to come from Dent, Yorkshire. In 1642 in a Visitation of Essex, son Edward is living in Chipping Ongar and gives his father's name as James of Lynn Regis. This entry also shows that Edward had two brothers - John and Richard - both of whom had already died and a sister Elizabeth aged 3 in 1642 (?). The index of Cambridge Alumni and the 1619 Visitation has his name as John but the will of his father in law John Maye in 1618 has a James Sedgwick as witness. The baptisms here have not been corroborated but I am pretty sure that they belong to this family. What is not clear is which James was the father of Daniel baptised in 1636 and Elizabeth baptised in 1641 both in Chipping Ongar, Essex. There is a family of a Thomas Sedgwick in the same parish who seem to fit the bill but how are they related to this group?
