Thomas was a tailors assistant and in 1851 is lodging in Doncaster. In 1861 and 1871 he is in Hulme, Lancashire and in 1881 in Stretford.

In 1891 and 1901 Martha is living in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire - firstly with daughter Laura and latterly with son Walter.
