Richard's parents an assumption based on his birthplace of Wensleydale per the 1851 census. Son Ashton lived in Indiana - passport applications for Ashton and his brother William suggest that his nephew lived in Cuba. Ashton states that he arrived in the USA in 1876.

Maria remarried to Jonathan Craven in 1870.
